I Knew You
Updated: Jun 13, 2020
Today I want to take a moment—a very important moment—to reflect on the fact of God knowing you beyond time. This was a very pivotal point for me and literally seemed to melt away every fleshly value I had. Walk with me as I open to Jeremiah 1:4—a very popular quotation used for nursery hangings and assurance of God’s love. I want to introduce the initial verse and let you read a letter of sorts from God the Father. The verse opens like this, “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you.”
“I knew you.”
I, The Lord; your Father, Creator, and King knew your soul and self before I ever placed you in a body on earth. I have always known you. Before you were ever born into the world, I made you clean. I called you holy and worthy. Before you became man, I set you apart for Myself.
You’ve lost sight of your eternal self. I watch you pick up idols all throughout your walk on earth. As you gain even the slightest revelation of your eternal place in Heaven, I smile as you give them up and cast them down. If only you could understand all of what you are and what you mean to Me—you would deny your flesh altogether. You would find the construction of your personal kingdom meaningless. Your idols would be broken violently without hesitation. Your fire would burn furiously, and your fervor would never be lost. Your faith would move mountains and your hands would freely release the power of God.
If you understood that you were always known to Me in Heaven before you became a babe, you would possess a deep knowing and recognition of Heaven as your home. The mental separation between you and Me would be baseless; likewise, the unity of our spirit lucid. Satan’s earthly temptation would be futile; the world’s treasures would match dust and its thrones mirror nullity.
You would pursue any intimacy with Me as
if it were silver, gold, and rubies. Your giftings would flourish and only ever reflect My face and presence. Your endeavors would produce fruit six, seven, and eight-fold. Your sight would carry you into tomorrow without anxiety, knowing your treasures perish and you reign with Me in the end anyhow. Your aging would bring no discouragement knowing our eternal life together begins at your mortal end. You would never question your existence, nor would you doubt Me as a Father. Your heart would thoroughly understand that we as the Body are eternally known to one another, soulfully distinct, yet entirely one. Your trust in My care and provision would be dumbfoundingly abiding. O that you would have this divine understanding and be fearless!
You would only ever seek My approval and the idea of man’s praise would be ludicrous. Your discouragement on earth would quickly relieve and your eyes would never cease to look up, always meditating on the unseen and never obsessing over the physical. As my servant in My spirit wrote for your comfort;
Therefore, we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. For our light affliction [here on earth], which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look for the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal
out of 2 Corinthians 4:16 (emphasis mine), you ought to look forward to the coming glory and never consider your present misery to be hopeless.
Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you. Before you were born, I sanctified you. You have always been Mine; it is just as my prophet wrote. You have always been holy; I’m faithful to you for eternity. As we walk, and as your heart burns with desire, I will open the gates of divine understanding to you; these truths will become your building stones as you discard your broken ones. You will grow strong and resilient with My assurance. You will add to our Body fearlessly and recognize our unity and eternal state. Before I formed you in your mother’s womb, I knew you. Before you were born, I sanctified you. You have always been known; you have always been set apart.
Eternally known and set apart before your time began, you breathe My life; but I am seldom understood in the physical world. Everything down there must be performed publicly, otherwise it never occurred. Moreover, I am in secret—not so with pompous man—and desire to meet you in secret. In the gospel of Mathew, chapter 6, I stress this point repeatedly (verses 3-4):
But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, that your charitable deed may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly.
Again, in verse 6
But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.
Lastly, verses 17-18:
But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face so that you do not appear to be fasting, but to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.
Our hidden intimacy is most precious to me. I regard your boastful good works as nothing, but your quiet faithfulness to Me—this I reward openly.
Again, knowing you’re seated in the heavenly places would make light of your tribulation. Even amid distress, you would delight yourself in Me and find the desires of your heart (Psalm 37:4). Above all endeavors, you would seek me first and of your needs you would not lack (Mathew 6:33-34). You would ask and receive in faith, knowing our connection and My favor (Mathew 7:7-11). You would find comfort in your disposition knowing the world hated Me first (John 15:18-25). You would never doubt My commitment to you knowing I cannot deny Myself (2 Timothy 2:13) and we are one. And you would never dream of me forgetting about you (Isaiah 49:15-16).
All these truths will become more and more clear as you meditate on My words, spend time enjoying My presence, and trust in My faithfulness. Before I formed you in your mother’s womb, I knew you. I loved you first which is why you can love Me back. I died for you so you could freely live with Me. I became unclean to call you clean. There’s nothing you will ever need to pay back nor is there any gift you will ever have to work for. It’s yours; I’m yours. I’ve always known you, and I can never forget you.
The Lord’s Exhortation,
Peace to you all.
